Homemade Studio Lighting.

It's been a while. I'm currently volunteering at an art museum and they've asked me to assist in archiving their permanent collection. I've never done anything like it, but am thrilled with the opportunity.

I have no idea how things will be set up down at the museum when it gets time to photograph, but I decided to read up a bit and figure out what I've gotten myself into.

So far, I've managed to jerry-rig our spare bedroom into a "studio."

I'm actually pretty proud of myself. Maybe one day I'll move on from trash cans and bedside lamps.

I'm so excited for these two!! They are good friends of mine and they are perfect for each other. I can't wait for the wedding this summer.

Frameless.

Photos and prints. Matted and not matted. Not quite sure how to hang them all yet, but when I do I'll be sure to document it.

These have been sitting in a plastic bag in a storage box or in the back of my wallet for a while. I didn't realize how many I had until I tried to fit them all on our kitchen table.

Still feels like I never go to the movies.

I opened up an Etsy shop today. Only a couple photos in there, but hopefully it'll do well and I can load it up with more. Check it out.

Like I said just two so far. If it takes off, and I make a profit, I'd love to get my negatives scanned in so I can work with those photos as well and get them out where people can see them. I have over 200 35mm frames and I'm dying to work on them.

I tried scanning them in at home with some silly homemade light reflector. In the time it took me to make the darned thing then see an image that looked like I smashed bugs on my scanner, I could have taken those negatives to someone who actually knew what they were doing.

Wow, it's been a long time. Between graduation and the wedding, life with my camera slowed way down. One of my graduation gifts to myself, (c/o the money from Mom and Dad!) was a new lens. Specifically this lens.

My Digital Meter.

Rachel and I shot some night photography. Three times actually. Don't have all the film prints back, but here are some digital shots from when I was metering. Not super exciting, just some exercises.

This week I loaded my film into the camera wrong. Twice. In. A. Row. I should have made the connection when I didn't feel tension when I advanced the film. After developing two empty rolls of film, losing my head over it and spending the day feeling like a total airhead, I fixed it with about a million ounces of Diet Coke and the sweet reminder that I can reshoot.

Graduation better hurry up.

I just started Advanced Black and White and I'm feeling super grateful for Dad's old photo equipment. Unfortunately, now I want a prime lens for my DSLR. This one is the digital equivalent of my favorite of Dad's lenses and the one that would probably look amazing on my camera. Just saying.

I feel kind of lame doing landscapes for my portfolio two semesters in a row, but it feels better than doing Uelsmann composites or Maggie Taylor nightmares.*
*Both great artists, just not my thing.
